Yesterday marked the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking through to the Major Leagues. It was a monumental achievement, and it changed the landscape of professional sports in America forever. In his 10 season's Jackie batted .311, had 1518 hits, 197 stolen bases ( a record 19 times he stole home), scored 947 runs and had an On Base Percentage of .409.

A lot has been said about the lack of African American players in the Majors today. But he opened the door for all minorities. Today, minority players make up 40% of Major League Baseball rosters. Latino players like Sammy Sosa, David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez and many many more are heirs to Jackie's legacy as much as C.C. Sabathia, Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre.


Here's to remembering a true American hero, Jackie Robinson.
